BMI calculator
What is BMI?
BMI (Body Mass index) is an approximate indicator of being underweight, healthy weight or overweight.
It is important to note that the BMI value should be taken into consideration along with gender and age and even with that it is an inaccurate value to make conclusions from. It does not take into consideration muscle mass, different body builds etc. (muscles are heavier than fat, so a given individual can have a higher BMI due only to a larger muscle mass).
BMI is considered primarily a statistical tool and in clinical practice much precise measurements are taken such as subcutaneous fat tissue depth measurements, etc.
BMI calaculation
BMI is calculated using a formula.
BMI = weight [kg] / height [m]2
