Imperial units of weight
The calculator converts imperial units of weight to their corresponding SI (metric) units of weight. Specifically, it tangibly converts pounds from avoirdupois units and ounces from troy units.
Units of weight "short avoirdupois"
The British weight system is used for the measurement of all commodities, excluding drugs and coins/precious metals (typically gold).
This system exhibits disparity solely in the last three values when compared to the "long avoirdupois" system. For instance, if our objective is to determine the conversion from pounds to kilograms, it becomes unnecessary to ascertain whether the pound originates from the short or long avoirdupois system, as the conversion remains identical.

Imperial units of weight questions and answers
Where are imperial units used?
Officially the imperial system is used by the USA, Myanmar and Liberia. However both Myanmar and Liberia are in on their way to switching to imperial. The UK officially uses the metric system, however people still use some units such as miles, pounds, gallon and pints, among others in every day life.
What were imperial units based on?
Originally the imperial system was based on the human body (e.g. inches were a thumb), but this does not work because obviously not every thumb is the same.
